The privacy of your personal information is important to us. As an organisation required to comply with the National Privacy Principles, our information handling practices have been reviewed by us to ensure that they are privacy friendly. As part of our commitment to the protection of your right to privacy, we provide this explanation of our information handling practices.
Collection, Use and Disclosure
We only collect personal information necessary for one or more of our functions or activities. Personal Information collected will be used for purposes such as the investigation of circumstances surrounding a loss event. In fulfilling this and all associated purposes we may use and disclose your personal information to fully report the circumstances of loss events to Insurers and/or Lawyers as appropriate.
Information deemed to be "Sensitive" under the Act would mostly be limited to information concerning Membership of professional or trade associations, racial or ethnic origins, philosophical beliefs, criminal record and health.
We will only collect this information with your express or implied consent or if otherwise allowed to do so under the NPPs. Your consent will be implied if, for example, we ask you for this information and you give it to us. We will only use and disclose that sensitive information as allowed under the NPPs.
Your personal information may be disclosed to Third Parties, which include Insurers, Lawyers and other Consultants engaged for the purpose of the enquiry.
We are regularly contracted by Insurers and Lawyers. If contracted by these organisations to investigate a claim then it is highly likely that they will provide your personal information to us and that we will supply them with personal information also.
When personal information is disclosed to third parties, those third parties are responsible for how they handle your personal information. Your personal information will not be sold to anyone.
Anonymity and Consequences
The provision of your personal information is voluntary, but if this information is not provided we may not be able to carry out our functions and activities.
